Department of Transitional Assistance

DTA’s Emergency Assistance (EA) Program provides homeless services, including temporary emergency shelter and access to permanent housing. 
Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC)
an economic assistance (cash benefit) program that helps pregnant individuals, families and caregivers explore opportunities, improve their finances, and reach their goals.
Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC)
Offers cash benefits to eligible Massachusetts elderly or disabled individuals as well as children who meet the program requirements

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
This program provides food vouchers to pregnant and nursing women, new mothers and children under age five. 1-800-WIC-1007

Meals on Wheels
Provide nutritionally balanced meals to elders, their dependents, and adults with disabilities in the Commonwealth. Along with the meals we provide safety checks and opportunities for social engagement, as well as nutrition education and counseling.

Utility Discounts 
Most electric companies and gas
companies have low-income discount programs. To apply for the discounts, call your gas and electric companies and ask for an application.

The Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund 
available to any Massachusetts resident who, because of temporary financial difficulty, cannot meet a month’s energy expense and is not eligible for state or federal energy assistance. Income must fall between 60 and 80 percent of the state’s median income levels

MA Food Delivery
Provides delivery of fresh local affordable food to the entire state including. Accepts SNAP/HIP. To order ahead of time please call 413-397-3654 or visit their website.

Lifeline Program 
Provides a discount on either a wireline or a wireless service.

Safelink Wireless (Cellphones):

To reach neighbors in need in underserved communities, GBFB distributes high-quality, nutritious food through Mobile Markets hosted by our partner agencies. Mobile Markets are set up in a farmer’s market style to allow clients to easily ‘shop’ at each table and choose from a diverse selection of fresh produce, dairy products, and high-protein items.
